You know that God’s Word clearly shows us what is right, and what is wrong. You believe it, but you are silent. Your disgust needs to become a holy anger, that leads you to become God’s voice. What can you do? What should you say, and how should you say it?

SCRIPTURE

“He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8

SPOTLIGHT

Do you ever sense a disgust as you watch immoral behavior become socially acceptable in society? Maybe it is the school system advising that previously determined questionable books are now, “good literature”, or that the sex education curriculum is not pornographic, but informative. Perhaps it is your neighbors who not only allow, but encourage their teenagers to have weekend roommates of the opposite sex. On a broader scale, what about all the babies that are aborted every year. Our abortion laws disrespect the sanctity of human life.

Have you ever wished you could do something about these things? In the Scripture text above, the question is asked, “What does the Lord require of you?” You know that God would have you to do something, but you are intimidated. You admire people who take a stand for, “what is good”, as mentioned above. You know that God’s Word clearly shows us what is right, and what is wrong. You believe it, but you are silent. Your disgust needs to become a holy anger, that leads you to become God’s voice. What can you do? What should you say, and how should you say it?

Micah, the prophet, was concerned with society being guided by righteous standards. He offered three guidelines for Christians to follow when wanting to become a voice in society.

#1. ACT JUSTLY! Christians are called to obey God’s Word which defines what is good and right for everyone. Take for example abortion. Read Psalm 139:13, Luke 1:36, Jeremiah 1, and Exodus 20:13. Someone said, “A society that tolerates killing its most weak individuals is a society in grave moral danger.” Dr. Michael Brown said that you take action because the spiritual intersects with the moral, which intersects with the cultural, which intersects with the political. [Past cultural issues like slavery, or segregation, or the Holocaust, could not be divorced from the political realm.] Believers have a personal responsibility to seek justice regarding any of God’s unchanging laws. In a Christian Post article Dr. Brown wrote: “We are not primarily political in our ministries, but we address political issues as needed. Nor are we primarily cultural in our emphasis, but cultural issues must be addressed because they intersect with our daily life. And a biblical faith without morality is not a real faith, nor can a moral code bring transformation unless it starts with a relationship with God. So, we focus first on the spiritual, then from there the moral, then the cultural, then the political. If we do this, the Lord will be glorified, and our people will be equipped.” [CP – 9/10/2020].

#2. LOVE MERCY! Christians are called to show kindness. They are to respond like God did when He gave His Son to die for man’s sin. This was unexpected and undeserved. Without question they are to be salt and light. Someone said that they are to be the prick on the conscience of the nation. Showing mercy is God’s way. If Christians do not show love, benevolence, and forgiveness then the salt and light witness of the church will be cripple. ed. Micah 7:18,19 states, “Who is a God like You, who pardons sin, and forgives the transgression of the remnant of His inheritance? You do not stay angry forever, but delight

to show mercy. You will again have compassion on us; You will tread our sins underfoot, and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.” (Read Psalms 89:14; 145:8,9, Proverbs 3:3,4; Matthew 5:9; James 2:13.)

#3. WALK HUMBLY! Christians are called to always be in harmony with God’s will. This means they determine to always please God. Walking humbly is not looking down on your enemies, or those who you vehemently disagree with, but loving them. Believers are instructed to humble themselves. (Read James 4:6-10 and 1 Peter 5:5,6.) Walking humbly, puts believers into a position of being greatly blessed by God, in all that they say and do.

SOMETHING TO DO

Take the following action steps:

#1. Educate yourself from the Bible perspective on issues.

#2. Educate others and pray for opportunities.

#3. Volunteer time.

#4. Write letters.

#5. Choose carefully who you vote for in elections.

#6. Help people, but don’t judge them. (Example: Pregnant mothers considering abortion.)

#7. Never condemn a person, but do not hesitate to condemn the issue.

SOUL TIME PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I am going to greatly need Your help to be able to become a voice for You, when opportunities arise to speak about cultural issues. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit power as You did with Micah who testified, “But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin.”[Micah 3:8].

You did it for him. Thank You for doing it for me! AMEN.
