SPOTLIGHT
Knowing someone’s name is so important. But knowing someone by name is even more important! Do you personally know any of the “Who’s Who of the World”? Maybe you know about some prominent people who have world influence but more than likely you don’t personally know them by name. Here’s the twist. You can personally know the “Who’s Who of the Universe”! God, the living Creator of all, wants you to personally know Him by name.
The “Who’s Who of the Universe” has chosen to reveal Himself by identifying His 9 compound names in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Psalms, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Ezekiel. In order to personally know the Living God by name, ask yourself the following question in the next paragraph.
If you could see a picture of the magnificent person you could become, how quickly would you say, “I want to be like that person.”? Here is the good news! That picture can become reality. You have been given an invitation to become this magnificent person. This is where you will achieve your highest potential and develop an extraordinary character. You cannot beat that! What you have to do is MEET THE GREATEST BLESSER.
When it comes to knowing the “Who’s Who in the Universe” who blesses people the most, Jehovah-M’Kaddesh is His name! He is life’s greatest blesser. God gave Himself this compound name. It means God sets apart and separates. This name is used 700 times in the Old Testament and clearly tells you that God is not only holy but wants to make you holy. Reread the Scripture focus for today. Also see Exodus 31:12,13.
Jehovah means “I am who I am.” M’kaddesh means God our sanctifier, the Lord who sanctifies you, and the One who makes you holy. God identifies this as one of His names so that you will experience life’s greatest blessing. He wants you to achieve great purposes. But the first way God can help you reach your highest potential is to bless you with holiness or God-likeness.
Please understand. The greatest blessing you need from God is not financial, physical or material but spiritual. Holiness is what you need and what you should long for. Holiness is life’s greatest blessing. You become a magnificent person as you become holy. You reach God given heights as you become Godly!
The name “Jehovah-M’Kaddesh” separates God from all other beings who would claim divinity. The holiness of God means perfect freedom from all evil, sin, darkness and Satan. Someday, all of creation will acknowledge and praise God because of His holiness. [Revelation 4:8, Philippians 2:11].
God is inviting you to become holy like He is. If you say yes, then God’s part will be to change you to become more like Him. He will create Godliness within your character.
But what is your part? You are to consecrate yourself to him. You need to say “Take me Lord… no conditions… I am 100% surrendered to you…” Then watch yourself change. At first, it may not be quick because you will be like a seed growing secretly in the ground. But Godly growth will come. People will notice a change in your personality, attitude and character.
You may be a Christian, but are you consecrated? You can be committed to loving God. [Deuteronomy 6:6,7] However, have you consecrated your life to him? This is when you purposely dedicate and devote yourself to becoming God-like in character.
God likeness is holy living. Consecration is closely communing with God. You do not have to go into isolation. You won’t have to move to a mountain monastery. Instead, you separate yourself from living for yourself to living for God. You choose to reflect your Maker rather than reflect yourself. Like it was in the Garden of Eden at the very beginning, you choose to be made in God’s image, rather than making your own image.
There have been many worship songs written about God’s holiness. Composers describe their journey in developing a Godly character as they worshiped God. One songwriter wrote, “In the presence of your infinite might, I’m so small and frail and weak when I see your power and wisdom, Lord, I have no words left to speak… And I cry holy, holy, holy God, how awesome is your name, holy, holy God, how majestic is your reign, and I am changed in the presence of a holy God.” [Mark Altrogge] Will you be changed by God and become more like Him?
Worship God and you will be changed by God. Know God and you will become like God. Just don’t know about God. Stand in His presence and you will be changed. Take personal time to talk to Him and give Him praise. Your character will take on Godliness. You will become magnificent. Why? Because God wants you to become like Him. Psalm 145:3 says “God is magnificent; he can never be praised enough. There are no boundaries to his greatness.” [Message] His towering greatness and goodness is incomparable. There is no bad in God. What He does is always for the good. God’s holiness always leads Him to do great and marvelous things that bestow blessing. You cannot worship God and not be changed by God!
SOMETHING TO DO
Has anyone ever said to you, “You’ve changed and for the good!” When you consecrate yourself, God will change you into His likeness. Become God’s magnificent person. When it comes to you changing your ways, the easiest and best way is when you connect with God. Consecrate yourself to Him. Holy God sees your potential for greatness that far exceeds anything you could imagine. Let God shape you into His image of magnificence. Consecrate yourself today to Jehovah-M’Kaddesh. Read Leviticus 21:8, 22:32 and Ezekiel 20:12.
