Would you be willing to speak to the greatest needs within your society?

SEARCHLIGHT

Would you be willing to speak to the greatest needs within your society?

SCRIPTURE

But as for me, I am filled with power – with the Spirit of the Lord. I am filled with justice and strength to boldly declare Israel’s sin and rebellion. Micah 3:8 NLT.

SPOTLIGHT

As I write this devotional, I have witnessed the making of a Christian martyr. Charlie Kirk was assassinated for his beliefs. Around the world, this is quite common. But here in the United States of America???  It has been such a very long time since people in the USA have had to face the reality of someone dying for their Savior and Lord.

Charlie was an advocate for truth. He boldly went to university campuses, to engage students in conversation about issues concerning justice, morality, and truth. This led him to share his faith in Jesus Christ. On September 10, 2025, Charlie was gunned down, by a sniper, as he engaged in an open forum on a Utah university campus.

Charlie Kirk reminds me of the man behind today’s Scripture focus. Micah, the prophet, was called by God to publicly speak to the sin and rebellion of people who ignored or denied God. He pinpointed the corruption and double standards of politicians, religious leaders, and societal leaders in his time. Then he called society to turn to God.

Can you pinpoint the greatest need within your community or city? Is it a need for better education, healthcare, jobs, physical safety, clean water, clean air, housing, or maybe food? What about child abuse, teen suicides, illegal drug consumption, etc.?

At the very core of all the needs of man is God. Man’s greatest need is to know and be in a personal relationship with his/her Creator. With God, man is blessed. Without God, man contends. Challenges, disunity and struggle mark societies that leave God out. People who ignore or deny God are missing a full, complete life.

God is calling for believers to stand up and speak up to injustice and immorality. It is not enough to live like a Christian. Becoming the voice of God is absolutely necessary. This is what Micah learned when God called him to become His voice. But he realized he could not fulfill God’s call without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Before he could truly understand the issues, and then lift his voice in love and firmness, Micah needed to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit filling led him to being filled with justice and strength. This is his testimony in Micah 3:8.

Will you be God’s voice? It is your choice. God is looking for people who will speak truth as they live out truth. Micah did not become a speaker on his own. God will never call you to go and tell, without Holy Spirit empowerment. God will never tell you to stand and speak without God anointing you.

Do you ever sense a holy anger arousing within you as you observe what is going on within society? The immorality, injustice, and ungodly behavior that has become socially acceptable, should cause you to grieve. Have you ever wished you had said something for God, but you did not? Can you recall other people being vocal about societies' problems, but you kept quiet? There are many problems within society that need to be addressed. They require Godly solutions, and you and I need the power of the Holy Spirit to address them.

Your personal effectiveness as God’s voice is determined by God’s Holy Spirit power indwelling you. Your community needs your God voice. And you need to be filled with the Spirit of the Lord. Just like Micah and Charlie.

Someone once told me it is just fine for a Christian to be like a watch. A watch does not talk but tells the time when a person looks at it. Just let people “watch” how you live. That is good enough. However, Micah would disagree. That is not good enough. Micah’s testimony is that a believer should live for God, and speak for God. Let people watch how you live, but also share the Good News with them. Stand for truth but also speak the truth.

Will you become God’s voice? It is your choice. If you say “Yes,” then just ask God to empower you with Holy Spirit power. God will do that!

SOMETHING TO DO

C.S. Lewis said “As Christians we are tempted to make unnecessary concessions to those outside the faith….There comes a time when we must show that we disagree. We must show our Christian colors, if we are to be true to Jesus. We cannot remain silent, or concede everything away.” [God in the Dock, p.262] Discuss this quote with friends. Decide what you should do.

SOUL TIME PRAYER

Heavenly Father, would you fill me with the Holy Spirit power so that I will stand for truth, and also speak the truth. I want to be your voice for justice and righteousness. Bless me with your anointing so that when I speak, I will speak with love, kindness and without compromise. AMEN!
