Are you a good decision maker? Do you think before you speak or act? Are you logical? Are you able to see the big picture when assessing the situation? How do you make sure that you are objective and not just subjective in your decision making?

SCRIPTURE

“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.” But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” Ruth 1:15-17

SPOTLIGHT

Are you a good decision maker? Do you think before you speak or act? Are you logical? Are you able to see the big picture when assessing the situation? How do you make sure that you are objective and not just subjective in your decision making?

Ruth is one of the best decision makers you will ever meet. Here is the reason why. Ruth lived by a principle that led her to live a life of unbelievable reward. Ruth made a decision that made her so very wise. It is seen in Ruth 1:15-17.

GOOD DECISION MAKING ALWAYS CONCLUDES THAT THE BEST CHOICE IS FOR GOD TO CHOOSE.

Ruth left everything (her family, home, and hometown). She entered into uncertainty (new people, new town, new nationality). Why did she make this decision? Ruth had a personal relationship with God her Creator. She knew Him as her Lord and Savior. So, Ruth did this because of her selfless love and devotion to God and Naomi. She walked in faith and humility rather than choosing security. And she did all of this at the prime of her life.

This is what it means to allow God to make the best decision for you. Sometimes it just does not make sense. Proverbs 3:5-6 states, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”

In order for you to follow Ruth’s model of good decision making, you are going to have to allow God to make your choices. This will require you to be;
1. Honest with God.
2. Honest with yourself.
3. Honest with others.

When you allow God to make choices for you, He always makes the best choices!

SOMETHING TO DO

Take time for reflection. It is time to be honest with God, yourself and others. Examine the last 3 big decisions you have made. It may have involved your career, friends, money, whatever.

Now reflect on how much you included God in on your decisions. Did you allow God to guide you? If not, how can you allow Him to direct from this day forward?

Now make a good decision by deciding to believe that God knows best for you and from this time on you will invite Him to choose for you.

SOUL TIME PRAYER

At this very moment, Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I wish I had included You in on my decisions of the past. But thank you that you will help me to be wise in the future because from this day forward, I am choosing to allow you to lead me and guide me, just like Ruth.
