Let people know who is number one in your life. Tell them the reason why you are alive, sane, and achieving things far beyond what you could ever have imagined. Let your family and friends hear from you about God’s blessings in your life. Give your Savior and Lord the praise by telling them why you have peace and purpose like never before.

SCRIPTURE

“Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 1:31

SPOTLIGHT

Boasting describes a person who is so proud of his achievements, or abilities, that he/she feels compelled to inform anyone and everyone about them. Politicians may be the best example. They promote themselves to win an election.

What is your number one claim to fame? Maybe you have many. Perhaps you are the only member of your family to graduate from college. Maybe you just bought a home and you are only 25 years old. It may surprise you, but the Bible tells you to boast. God’s Word encourages you to become a boaster, but for only one reason. GO AHEAD AND BOAST. Paul wrote to the Corinthian Christians saying, “Take a good look friend, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks, and exploits and abuses? He chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies.” That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate, and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.” [Message.]

GO AHEAD AND BOAST all you want as long as you follow the guidelines in Scripture. The Apostle Paul directs a believer to intentionally make it his life’s purpose to boast about Jesus Christ. He told the Galatian Christians, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” [Galatians 6:14.]

Jeremiah, the prophet, recorded a wonderful encouragement on how to be righteously proud. This is what the Lord says, “Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches. But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone; that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth and that I delight in these things. I,  the Lord, have spoken!” [Jeremiah 9:23,24 NLB.] You have bragging rights. You have experienced the love of God when Jesus forgave you of your sin and changed your life. You daily experience the love of God in your life. People are not going to shun you for this type of boasting. You are not caught up with yourself. Where would you be if you had not encountered Jesus? People boast of their knowledge, abilities, strength, and wealth, but you can boast about your relationship with the living God. You can tell anyone who will listen, that only God is truly kind, just, righteous, and forgiving. Knowing God has changed your life.

You have bragging rights about knowing Jesus, Who is most loving, wise, just, and merciful. Make it your purpose today to do a little boasting and bragging just as the Bible instructs. GO AHEAD AND BOAST.

SOMETHING TO DO

#1. What is your number one claim to fame?

#2. How has Jesus Christ changed your life?

#3. Where would you be if you had not made Jesus the Savior and Lord of your life?

#4. Are the answers to the above questions worth bragging about?

SOUL TIME PRAYER

Lord Jesus Christ, there is nothing worth boasting about in my life except knowing You! Thank you for making Yourself real to me. I will forever boast about You, my Savior and Lord. AMEN.
