Do you remember what it was like to receive an “A” or even an “A+” on a test in school? I remember because I didn’t get that many. It was exciting, motivating, and very rewarding when I came home with an “A” on my report card.

SCRIPTURE

“I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.” Deuteronomy 32:3-4 NIV

SPOTLIGHT

Do you remember what it was like to receive an “A” or even an “A+” on a test in school? I remember because I didn’t get that many. It was exciting, motivating, and very rewarding when I came home with an “A” on my report card. I want you to be an “A+” Christian. And I want you to know anyone can be that. It has nothing to do with your aptitude or memory. However, it has everything to do with your will. Here’s how to be an “A+” Christian.

ANCHOR yourself to the Rock. I am not referring to the Prudential Insurance Company logo. The Bible says in Deuteronomy 32:3-4, “I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God! He is the Rock, His works are perfect, and all His ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is He.” Moses was nearing death. He was concerned about the children of Israel moving away from God. Deuteronomy 32 is entitled the “Song of Moses” where he personally and clearly testifies to wanting to be an “A+” Christian. Later in the chapter, {32:15-18,} he reminded the children of Israel how they had abandoned God as their Rock in the past (Jeshurun is a pet name for the people of Israel). Moses teaches you to anchor yourself to God the Rock. You pay heavy consequences when you forget or desert God in your life. The Lord is “my” Shepherd (Psalm 23), but the Lord is also “my” Rock (Psalm 18). When He is your Shepherd, you will never be in need and when He is your Rock, you will always be safe and secure.

ATTACH yourself to people who have a strong faith in and commitment to Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ promises to save you and keep you. Philippians 1:6 states, “being confident of this, that He who began a good working in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” However, the Bible also tells us that you need Christian people to help you spiritually grow. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 states, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just is in fact you are doing.” Hebrews 10: 24-25 states, “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some were in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

ALERT yourself to temptation. God redeems but Satan schemes. Upon becoming a born again believer, Satan will continue to be your number one enemy. He will attempt to induce you to do wrong things which will begin to ruin your personal relationship with your loving God. Be alert to his activity. He appears as a heavenly angel in order to deceive you. 2 Corinthians 11:14 states, “And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.”

AIM to be holy. 1 Peter 1:15-16 states, “But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written, ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’ ” Becoming holy is not a result of what you do but of what you desire. Are you thankful enough to Jesus Christ for what He has done for you to the point that you desire to become like Him? Colossians 1:22 encourages us that we don’t do the work of becoming holy but indeed just desire it. Children often tell their parents they want to grow up to be like mommy or daddy. Why? Because they love and admire their parents for who they are and what they do. You will have to walk with Jesus Christ in order to walk like Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:6 states, “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Jesus did.” Just do what Romans 12:1 states, “Therefore I urge you brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.”

Congratulations! You are on the fast track to becoming an “A+” Christian. Just desire to get as many “A’s” as possible. Anchor yourself to Jesus Christ. Ephesians 2:20 states, “Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.” Attach yourself to strong believers. Alert yourself to Satan. Aim yourself to allowing God to make you holy.
